Iron Acton WI

Iron Acton WI

Iron Acton WI ladies are a friendly, sociable group. We meet on the second Monday of each month at 730pm in the Parish Hall. We have a speaker at each meeting and recently we had a talk from Fiona Waring on the Women’s Land Army WorldWar II and earlier in the year Richard Cornock a local farmer and published author from Tytherington came to speak to us. Medical detention dogs was a memorable topic and a brilliant speaker so very interesting.

We have refreshments including delicious cake and a raffle .We do bring and buy which can be anything from homemade jam and marmalade to home grown fruit or vegetables. There are 25 members at present and we celebrate our 105th birthday in November 2024. Last year we enjoyed our birthday meal at The Lamb which was delicious.

In December we have a Christmas party with everyone contributing to the buffet and mulled wine is enjoyed. Secret Santa presents are chosen and Christmas cards exchanged.

There are other activities going on like book club and skittles, as we go into a new year we will be competing again.

Some members went on a trip to Hampton Court Palace along with otherWI groups and we visited the American Museum in December which was rather lovely with all the Christmas decorations.

It is always good to share new ideas on where to visit so we loved the beautiful Salisbury Cathedral and Winchester Christmas markets and Cathedral.

Anyone wishing to join us and make new friends would be very welcome. As secretary I am happy to give you any further information. Email Bridget.

Laughter in Line- Line Dancing Club

Laughter in Line- Line Dancing Club

Laughter in Line is our local Line Dancing club, we’ve been dancing (and laughing) in the Iron Acton Parish Hall since 2007. We have a beginners class on a Thursday at 7:30pm and then Improvers class straight after (8:30pm). We start afresh most Septembers (with “Absolute Beginners” dances) and build up with new steps each week so that by the following summer, dancers should be feeling confident enough to try Improvers. People can join us at any time – it’s just easier for you, if you join in September.

Some frequently asked questions:

Can I just turn up? No – you need to book in advance through the website. There’s lots of information on there, plus a booking button. We are still restricting places so that the class doesn’t get too crowded; we always have windows open, too.

What sort of music do you play? Some country, but also pop, and golden oldies – something for everyone.

What should I bring? A bottle of water is recommended, and wear sensible shoes (not sandals and not high heels) – there’s more advice on this on the website.

Top tips? You are there to have fun! So relax and enjoy yourself, it doesn’t matter if you “get it right”. (We all make mistakes, just enjoy moving to the music and have a laugh.)

I have another question… Get in touch, either through the website, or we have a Facebook page
